It appears to be nothing more than a routine night off for the 34-year-old slugger as the Yankees attempt to keep him healthy for the remainder of the season. Aaron Judge will function as the team’s designated hitter in his place while Trent Grisham patrols center field for the Bombers.

The 32-year-old hurler has been shelved since the middle of May when his recovery from Tommy John surgery took a detour due to renewed inflammation in his pitching elbow. It sounds like he’s back on track though and if all goes well he may only be a week or two away from helping out in the Yankees’ bullpen.

The 28-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Padres just before the trade deadline, but he was absolutely hammered in his five outings with the Yankees — posting a 14.21 ERA, 2.53 WHIP and a 5/3 K/BB ratio across 6 1/3 innings of work. There’s a chance that another team in need of bullpen depth could come calling on waivers.

Warren, who was lit up for eight runs over 4 1/3 innings against the Angels in a spot start last week, will draw another start against the White Sox in Chicago on Wednesday night. His 11.17 ERA isn’t inspiring, but a matchup against Davis Martin and the White Sox is about as good as it gets in terms of win equity. As a fantasy manager, it just depends on your risk tolerance.

Peraza will get another opportunity at the big-league level with Jazz Chisholm Jr. (elbow) heading to the injured list on Wednesday. The 24-year-old had been slashing a sizzling .317/.407/.658 with seven homers and eight stolen bases in 21 games since the All-Star break at Triple-A. He’ll help to share the load at third base with DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera.

It’s still not exactly clear just how long the dynamic 26-year-old superstar will be shelved for, or whether or not he’ll require surgery. Regardless though, it’s a major loss for the Bombers and for fantasy managers. Expect the Yankees to utilize some combination of Oswald Peraza, Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu at the hot corner in the meantime.

Peraza has more third base experience than Jorbit Vivas, and he’s excelled in Triple-A of late, hitting .317/.407/.658 with seven homers and eight steals in 21 games during the second half. It might be worth it for the Yankees to give him a real shot over DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera.

Cortes was locked into cruise control against the White Sox. The lefty struck out seven batters through his first five innings of work and gave up only one extra-base hit on the night while Juan Soto provided him all the run support he would need, as Soto belted not one, not two, but three homers on the night while driving in all four of the Yankees runs. This was a much-needed bounce-back for Cortes, who allowed six earned runs over 4 2/3 innings to the Angels in his last outing. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday against the Guardians.

Soto kicked off the first three-homer performance of his remarkable career by taking White Sox starter Jonathan Cannon deep for a two-run shot in the third inning. Unfortunately for Cannon, Soto wasn’t done yet, as he went yard again in the fifth inning with a solo blast to left-center field. He capped off the three-homer explosion with a seventh-inning moonshot off rookie reliever Fraser Ellard. It’s pretty remarkable Chicago even elected to pitch to him by that stage in the contest. The 25-year-old generational talent has homered five times in his last three games and has six homers and nine RBI in the month of August. Simply put, he continues to torment opposing pitchers who dare to challenge him anywhere in the strike zone, and has shown a willingness to take the free passes when they work around him.

Boone added that the club is still working to determine the severity of the injury, which will require a trip to the injured list. The biggest question left for fantasy managers is whether Chisholm will require surgery, which could potentially impact his 2025 outlook. The 26-year-old, who was batting .316 (18-for-57) with seven homers and five steals over 14 games since being acquired last month from the Marlins, suffered the left elbow injury on a slide into home plate during Monday’s loss to the White Sox. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days, but fantasy managers should prepare for an extended absence. It’ll likely be some combination of Oswald Peraza, Oswaldo Cabrera and DJ LeMahieu taking over at the hot corner for New York.
