  • FA Wide Receiver #84
Davis retired just before the start of the 2023 season but has since decided to attempt a comeback. The Jets released him early in the offseason, allowing him to sign with any team willing to take a shot on him. The Bills are shockingly thin at wide receiver heading into the season, creating a need for extra depth at the position. Davis won’t be a fantasy-relevant option in Buffalo, but he could provide the team with a veteran presence as they attempt to figure out their rotation.

It took Douglas only a few minutes to put his foot down and let Reddick know where he and the team stand in this situation. In a complete statement posted to the team’s social media accounts, Douglas said, “We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report. Since the trade discussions back in March we have been clear, direct, and consistent with our position. Our focus will remain on the guys we have here as we prepare for the regular season.” We’re going to go out on a limb and assume this statement won’t be received too well by Reddick and his camp.

The Jets/Reddick saga continues to reek of ineptitude from the team and their front office. Reddick’s desire for a new contract is what ultimately led to him being traded from the Eagles to the Jets earlier this offseason, but the team seemingly has no interest in giving him the extension he desires. Because of this, Reddick has held out from OTAs, mandatory minicamp, and now training camp and is now looking to be traded for the second time in the last five months. Reddick has totaled 38 sacks in his last three seasons and led the league with 16 sacks in 2022. He has one year remaining on his current deal and will turn 30 shortly after the start of the season. Whether this leads to a trade or not, this almost certainly won’t be the last we hear of one of the offseason’s stranger stories.
  • NYJ Running Back
Starters did not play for the Jets but Allen’s 9.0 yards per carry on six totes solidifies his status as the clear backup to starter Breece Hall, backing up the initial depth chart release that had the rookie listed as the second in line for work. Allen has reportedly impressed in camp as both a runner and pass-catcher and appears to be one of the better pure backfield backups for fantasy purposes.

It’s about what we’d expect to hear from Williams, who has logged exactly one training camp practice since returning from a torn ACL that landed him on the PUP list to open camp. The Jets’ Week 1 opener is set for September 9, giving Williams just over a month to get up to speed both physically and mentally. Barring any setbacks, we’d expect Williams to suit up when the time comes, but it’s too early to say anything with much certainty at this time.

This is encouraging news for Williams, who opened camp on the PUP list while continuing to recover from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 3 of last season. The big-bodied receiver is expected to play a lot of snaps opposite Garrett Wilson and should give Aaron Rodgers a good option on the outside for contested catches and end zone targets. Prior to his injury, Williams had caught 19 passes for 249 yards and one touchdown in the three games he appeared in and appeared on track for the best season of his career. Once he’s fully up to speed, Williams should carry some high-end WR3 upside in PPR leagues. Since 2021, Williams has had 16 top-24 PPR weeks in 32 games played over that span.

The Jets add Jackson to a backfield group that looks murky behind workhorse Breece Hall. Rookie Braelon Allen looks to be the favorite for the RB2 job while fellow rookie Isaiah Davis and 2023 fifth-rounder Israel Abanikanda join him. Jackson will be preseason depth after spending last season with the Colts, Browns, and Giants. The 25-year-old UDFA had a few good games in 2022 with the Colts, but was not able to stay relevant in Indy’s backfield. Most recently playing in a game for the Giants, Jackson will need to flash potential in the preseason to stay on the Jets roster or for another team to find value in picking him up.

The veteran will join the Jets in training camp this week. Williams tore his ACL in Week 3 of the 2023 season and has rehabbed in recent months after signing a one-year deal with the Jets in the offseason. Entering his age-30 season, Williams profiles as the Jets’ main downfield threat and the No. 2 receiver behind Garrett Wilson. Williams has said his goal was to be a full go for the Jets’ season opener against the 49ers. A healthy season for the injury-plagued Williams would be a boon for New York’s precariously thin offense.

Allen is listed behind Breece Hall, but ahead of both Isaiah Davis and Israel Abanikanda on the depth chart. The Jets added Allen with the 134th pick of the draft in April, and the former Wisconsin tailback has reportedly impressed as a pass catcher in preseason work. Allen has long-term upside, but his 2024 fantasy value is tied to Hall’s health.

The QB-WR tandem started camp on a tear, Rosenblatt said, but they have since struggled with communication issues that have led to poor offensive performances against the Jets defense in practice. Last Thursday, Rodgers completed 10 of 20 passes in 11-on-11 drills and 2 of 4 in seven-on-seven sessions, according to Rosenblatt. Head coach Robert Saleh said he’s not worried about the recent struggles. “There’s plenty of time to evaluate the one on one aspect,” Saleh said. “There’s a lot of install going on. There’s still a lot of (overthinking) going on with regard to the playbook.” Wilson and Rodgers have been seen arguing on the sideline at training camp. Rodgers has dismissed the heated exchanges as something that either did not happen or was misinterpreted by people recording the arguments on their phones. In any case, Wilson is set to be the team’s clear-cut No. 1 pass catching option in 2024.
