  • NO Quarterback #18
Rattler got the entire second half, and it was a mixed bag at best. He completed just-under 53 percent of his attempts, and he didn’t exactly get the ball deep with just a 4.1 YPA in his action against Arizona’s backups. Rattler has reportedly looked good in his practice reps but at least based on Saturday, Jake Haener (9-of-13, 107 yards) was the better quarterback. We’ll see if that changes next Sunday against San Francisco.
  • NO Quarterback #3
Haener played the overwhelming majority of the first half after Derek Carr took the field for the first two series. He didn’t throw for a score nor did he lead a touchdown drive, but he was able to help the Saints to a pair of scoring drives in field goals. The 2023 fourth-round pick clearly outplayed Spencer Rattler in his battle to secure the backup job to Carr to begin the 2024 campaign. He’ll still need to keep his foot on the gas next Sunday against the 49ers.
  • NO Wide Receiver #17
The box score numbers look good until you realize Perry didn’t record a target until the starters departed the contest, catching his passes from Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler. Perry continues to be listed as a starter on the team’s depth chart but playing this deep into a preseason game does not bode well for his chances of earning targets alongside Chris Olave and Rasheed Shahid. The additional playing time could also be attributed to head coach Dennis Allen’s previous comments this offseason that indicated the second-year wide receiver had numerous areas of his game to continue to improve.
  • NO Wide Receiver #12
The efficiency was lacking as quarterback Derek Carr found himself under routine pressure behind what is expected to be one of the worst offensive lines in the league in 2024, but the four targets on just six Carr pass attempts were encouraging for the third-year wide receiver. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has his work cut out considering the expected shortcomings of the offensive line, something that might influence Olave’s aDOT in the coming season. Either way, Olave should find a way to consistently contribute for fantasy purposes moving forward.
  • NO Running Back #41
Kamara and Williams rotated through the lineup during two short series with the starters with Kendre Miller out with an injury. Both backs saw two carries while it was Williams that saw the only target between the two. Expect the Saints to begin the season with a running back rotation similar to that which we saw utilized last season, with Kamara’s fantasy value bolstered by his involvement through the air.
  • NO Quarterback #4
The starters played just two series against the Cardinals but it was not pretty, primarily influenced by routine pressure behind an offensive line expected to be near the bottom of the league in 2024. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will assuredly make adjustments based on the expectation for increased pressure rates on quarterback Derek Carr, something that could affect the team’s ability to attack downfield with any consistency. Keep an eye on the team’s performance in preseason Week 2 against the 49ers.
  • NO Linebacker #20
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Werner’s deal is worth just over $25 million and includes $17.5 million in guaranteed money. Now under contract through the 2027 season, Werner, who totaled 93 tackles, four TFLs, and one interception last season, will be tasked with leading the Saints’ defense for the foreseeable future. Last season, Werner and the Saints ranked eighth in points allowed per game (19.2) while finishing 13th in yards allowed per game (321.2).
  • NO Wide Receiver #22
The speedy wideout has missed four days since experiencing hamstring tightness over the weekend. Though this could be the Saints remaining cautious with an important part of their offense, Shaheed’s practice availability will be something to monitor as the team gets closer to their Week 1 game against the Panthers.
  • NO Quarterback #18
Rattler got all of the reps with Jake Haener away from the team until Wednesday while addressing an issue related to his skin cancer. Mike Triplett of New Orleans football reports that Rattler performed well, and the 2024 fifth-round pick has gotten positive reviews since the start of camp. It’s worth noting that the 23-year-old was a highly-regarded prospect coming into college who flashed brilliance at Oklahoma and South Carolina, and while Haener has a chance to win the job and stick as a backup, Rattler has significantly more upside in his right arm.
  • NO Wide Receiver #22
Initial reports indicated Shaheed would return to practice on Sunday after a precautionary rest day on Saturday. His unexpected Sunday absence makes this a situation to monitor moving forward as Shaheed is expected to assume the Saints’ No. 2 WR role this year. Shaheed dazzled as a 2023 first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl returner. He efficiently averaged 1.95 yards per route run on offense through his first two NFL seasons.
