  • DET Running Back #26
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Wednesday morning that Gibbs — who picked up a hamstring injury on Monday — is “gonna be fine.” Schultz confirmed Gibbs’ injury isn’t a long-term issue, and barring any setbacks in the coming weeks, the second-year back should suit up for Week 1 against LA. In Detroit’s postseason win over the Rams last season, Gibbs had 25 yards on eight carries and four catches for 43 yards.
  • DET Quarterback #2
Hooker sustained a concussion in Detroit’s preseason opener against the Giants. It doesn’t look like he’ll miss any time with the brain injury. Hooker, who missed all of 2023 with an ACL injury he suffered during his final collegiate season, completed five of nine passes for 36 scoreless yards last week against the Giants. He’ll get plenty of playing time this preseason.
  • DET Running Back #26
“I think we’re gonna be fine here,” Campbell said during a Wednesday radio interview. “So, I think we’ll be good.” It’s not much to quell the concerns about an extended absence for Gibbs, but it suggests the second-year back’s hamstring injury won’t be of the long-term variety. Even so, it wouldn’t be a surprise for Gibbs to sit out practice for days or even weeks as the team preps for its Week 1 game against the Patriots. David Montgomery would likely work as an every-down back if Gibbs were to miss any time in the regular season.
  • DET Cornerback #0
The Lions selected Arnold with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and hope to have the rookie as a starter in the secondary. However, Arnold suffered a pec injury in practice, briefly putting a wrench in those plans. Second-round rookie CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was also hurt in Monday’s practice with an apparent ankle injury. In addition to the two rookies, free agent signing Carlton Davis is also expected to contribute for a revamped Lions secondary that allowed the second-most passing yards per attempt last season. The good news is that Arnold is not expected to miss regular season time, while Rakestraw said he’s “perfectly fine” via an Instagram Live. The Lions will still be able to use the rookies next to Davis to improve the defense this season.
  • DET Running Back #26
This updates previous reports that the second-year running back left practice early with what was being called a leg injury. The severity of the injury will dictate whether or not Gibbs misses any regular season time, but we’ve seen multiple instances of preseason hamstring injuries lingering into the regular season over the previous two years. Gibbs’ expected absence for the remainder of camp should allow more opportunities for Craig Reynolds and rookie Sione Vaki to run with the ones.
  • DET Running Back #26
Woodyard, who covers the Lions for ESPN, said the second-year running back did not finish practice Monday after sustaining what is currently being called a leg injury. Unfortunately for us, that leaves a rather wide range of outcomes as to the severity of the injury. We’re sure to hear more from Lions camp after further evaluation.
  • DET Tackle #76
Galvin spent last season on the Lions’ practice squad after joining the team as a rookie UDFA. The former Baylor Bear was competing for a spot as added depth along the offensive line, but will now see his second season come to an end with this injury. Galvin had his leg rolled up on in Thursday’s preseason game against the Giants and was eventually carted off the field. The Lions may look to add somebody else to their line to replace Galvin in the coming days.
  • SF Safety #21
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows reports the 49ers are planning to sign safety Tracy Walker after he worked out for them on Wednesday. Walker tore his Achilles in 2022, but returned to play 17 games for the Lions in 2023. Starting in six games last season, he defended two passes, forced one fumble, and recorded one sack. Walker totaled 79 games in six seasons with the Lions, starting 43 of them and defending 23 passes with three interceptions. The veteran now lands with the 49ers, who could use the depth with Talanoa Hufanga recovering from last season’s Week 11 ACL tear.
  • DET Defensive Back #4
It’s a disappointing setback for Moseley, who suffered a torn ACL in Week 1 last year and missed the entire season. Now, Moseley will almost certainly land on injured reserve in the coming days and will be out for an extended period of time while recovering from this injury. Moseley is facing added competition for snaps, with the Lions adding Ennis Rakestraw and Terrion Arnold in this year’s draft. Moseley has played in just 17 games since 2021 after also suffering a torn ACL in 2022. Hopefully, he can move past this latest injury and return in time to play out most of the season.
  • DET Running Back #26
According to Gibbs, the team’s goal is to use him as a slot receiver in addition to running back. The second-year pro is well-renowned for his abilities as a pass-catcher. As a rookie, he caught 52 passes for 316 yards and a touchdown but is hoping to expand on that role this upcoming season, which could spell wonders for fantasy managers. Gibbs finished as the RB8 in fantasy points per game (16.4) in PPR leagues last season but averaged 18.8 fantasy points per game in Weeks 7-18. While he’s still at risk of losing valuable goal-line touches to David Montgomery, his stand-alone value, even with Montgomery in the lineup, makes him an enticing pick in fantasy drafts.
